Fetisov said about Chepikov's "magnetism" in the development of sports and patriotism

Two-time Olympic biathlon champion Sergey Chepikov epitomized the era and was a man of principle in all respects. "Izvestia" was informed about this on September 21 by two-time Olympic hockey champion and State Duma deputy Vyacheslav Fetisov.

"With his smile, of course, he "magnified" everything related to the development of sports and patriotism. <...> The guys who represent the era are leaving. But all that remains for us today is to remember. It is imperative to remind young people that in our country Sergey Chepikov is the one who, with his skill, made biathlon one of the most watched sports on planet Earth," Fetisov shared.

He called the biathlete's death an irreparable loss.

"Versatile, multifaceted, talented. Father of six children. The children were brought up with the understanding that they live in a great country with a great history," the MP added.

Chepikov passed away after a long illness at the age of 59, and Sergey Averyanov, head of the press service of the Russian Biathlon Union, announced his death on September 17. During his sporting career, Chepikov managed to win six Olympic medals and win the overall World Cup twice. After completing sports performances, he worked in the Russian biathlon, and later became a deputy of the State Duma. The farewell ceremony for Chepikov took place on September 21 at the Troekurovsky Cemetery in Moscow.
