The Russian Foreign Ministry did not see the role of the UN in the conflict settlement process in Ukraine

Russia does not see the role of the United Nations in resolving the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on September 17 by Kirill Logvinov, Director of the Department of International Organizations at the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"In short, we don't see it. Unfortunately, the UN Secretariat under the current leadership has failed to maintain impartiality on the Ukrainian issue," he explained in an interview with "Interfax".

According to the diplomat, the organization's Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, also did not take into account Moscow's position and sided with Western states. Logvinov said that the Ukrainian issue has become a platform for the United Nations to apply double standards.

He expressed hope that the UN approach would change under the new head of the organization. According to the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the possibility of using the organization's potential after the conflict ends will depend on this, among other things.

Guterres said on September 16 that a cease-fire could be the first and fair step towards resolving the conflict in Ukraine. He stressed that the relevant step must comply with the UN Charter, as well as all its resolutions.

A day earlier, the former permanent representative of Uganda to the UN, Olara Otunnu, who is one of the candidates for the post of Secretary General of the organization, indicated that the organization should urgently involve key parties to hold a global peace conference aimed at immediately ending the Ukrainian conflict.
