Strawberries and raspberries returned to the shelves of Moscow fairs

Strawberries and raspberries of remontant varieties continue to be sold at Moscow fairs in the fall. This was announced on Wednesday, September 16, by the Moscow Department of Trade and Services.

Such plants produce several harvests per season and can bear fruit until the first frost. Due to the dense structure, the berries retain their shape well and tolerate transportation.

Products are imported from Krasnodar Krai, Dagestan, Moscow region, as well as Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Ryazan, Tambov and Rostov regions. The department explained that unlike ordinary strawberries, which bear fruit for several weeks in early summer, the repair varieties yield in August and September. Repair raspberries form berries on young shoots of the current year, so its harvest ripens gradually in late summer and autumn, writes "Moscow 24".

Chef Oleg Olkhov said that fresh strawberries are stored for a very short time, so it is better to immediately turn part of the harvest into homemade preparations — "quick" jams, delicate jelly or fragrant filling for baking.
