Director Rob Reiner's son avoids death penalty

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office will not seek the death penalty for Nick Reiner, accused of murdering his father Rob Reiner and mother Michelle Singer Reiner. This was announced on September 15 by Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hockman.

"This decision reflects our careful assessment of the most appropriate path in this case and does not detract from the gravity of these crimes," the Reuters news agency quoted Hockman as saying.

It is specified that the prosecutor's office came to an appropriate decision after a conversation with Rainer's brother and sisters. The district attorney added that if the man is found guilty, the maximum penalty for him could be life imprisonment.

Rainer and his wife Michelle were found dead on December 15 at their home in Los Angeles. The bodies of the two spouses were found by a relative who came to their house. Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department are currently investigating the murder.

Hockman announced on December 16 that the actor's son Nick would be charged with two counts of murder. In addition, the prosecutor added that Rainer is currently in custody without bail.

The Daily Mail newspaper reported on December 19 that the murdered director had told friends shortly after the conflict with his son Nick that he was afraid of him. Rainer also said that his son could harm him.
