Finland has joined the European nuclear deterrence initiative proposed by France as part of the new defense concept of Forward Deterrence. About this on September 14th It was reported on the website of the Elysee Palace.

"Finland has decided to join the concept of advanced deterrence today. This decision, in line with the international obligations of the two countries, is an important step for European security and bilateral cooperation," the statement said.

The document explains that the initiative is based on the updated doctrine announced by the French president in March this year. It is specified that Helsinki's accession will strengthen the strategic partnership with Paris, expand opportunities for strategic signaling and allow more effective management of escalation below the nuclear threshold, and for the practical implementation of the agreements, the parties will form a special nuclear steering group in the coming months.

On August 30, Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish national conservative "Freedom Alliance" party, said that the political course of European states towards Russia could increase the risk of a nuclear confrontation. According to Mema, European leaders should focus on de-escalation and finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict in Ukraine.

Mema reported on August 4 that NATO and the United States could deploy nuclear weapons in Finland at any time without obtaining permission from the country's authorities. In his opinion, after Finland changes the law on nuclear weapons, NATO will no longer need approval from the authorities if an appropriate decision is made.
