Scammers have started using artificial intelligence to create fake photos and videos of victims, after which they blackmail people and demand money. This was announced on September 12 by the press service of the Russian Interior Ministry.

"Based on real photos of the victim, the attackers create compromising photos and videos that did not actually exist. Then they threaten to distribute these materials among friends or on the Internet, demanding to transfer money," the agency said at the request of "RIA Novosti".

The Interior Ministry also warned about the spread of deepfakes, with which fraudsters create realistic images, videos and audio with the participation of officials, employees of financial organizations, educators or popular bloggers.

Senator Artyom Sheikin said on the same day that the scammers had mastered a scheme to substitute the phone number and synthesize the voice of a friend of the victim. An unexpected request to dictate a code from a message, install a program, or follow a link allows you to detect deception.
