The biologist named the insect with the most painful bite
The painfulness of horsefly bites is associated with the structural features of their oral apparatus, which is able to cut the skin. Biologist Dmitry Safonov told about it on September 11.
"Horseflies have a powerful cutting mouthpiece. It consists of very sharp plates, and when a horsefly bites, it literally cuts through the skin to get to the blood," Safonov explained in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Such an effect causes a sharp burning pain. A horsefly bite is often accompanied by bleeding and swelling.
The biologist also reported that the second peak of activity of these insects has begun in the capital region. It is expected to last until mid-September.
On September 5, Rospotrebnadzor reported that the second peak of tick activity had begun in the Russian regions. They also recalled the safety rules during the berry and mushroom picking period: when traveling to nature, choose closed and light-colored clothes, use insect repellents and insect repellents, regularly inspect yourself on the street and upon returning home.
