On September 7, Elizaveta Kulikova, a psychologist and methodologist at the Laboratory of Telepsychology at the Institute of Clinical Psychology and Social Work (ICPSR) at Pirogov University, told how to recognize tactile hunger under the guise of fatigue and bad temper and how it relates to brain function.

In conversation with the agency RuNews24.Ru The expert noted that people's need for touching varies: some people need hugs and physical contact, while others prefer to respect personal boundaries. However, the so-called tactile hunger can occur in any person.

The specialist explained that touching triggers a number of reactions in the brain: cortisol levels decrease and oxytocin production increases, associated with a sense of security and intimacy. Therefore, hugs can reduce anxiety, slow down the heartbeat, and help you relax.

Tactile hunger often accompanies loneliness and emotional deprivation. According to Kulikova, in the absence of physical contact for a long time, a person may experience a state similar to depression, avoid touching and at the same time need intimacy and be afraid of it.

At the same time, the nervous system is able to adapt, so the need for tactile contact can be filled gradually. Massage, hugs with loved ones, a warm shower or bath, a blanket, communication with animals and even hand rubbing can help, notes 360.ru .

The psychologist stressed that it is not necessary to be ashamed of the desire for physical intimacy, the website clarifies. kp.ru . According to her, the need for hugs is as natural to humans as the need for food or sleep.

In June, scientists from the Netherlands found that communicating with domestic cats during stress does not always help to cope with negative emotions, and sometimes it can even increase them. During the work, the experts analyzed about 8 thousand daily reports on the well-being and interaction of people with pets.

Before that, doctor Valeria Rumyantseva told why hugs with loved ones are important for a person. In particular, hugs improve mood and help to survive stress, cope with panic attacks, writes RT.
