The Kremlin commented on Trump's publication about the Moon
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on September 8 that he did not consider the publication of the American leader Donald Trump to declare the Moon the property of the United States. In his opinion, the words of the US president express hope for the imminent return of American astronauts to the Earth's satellite.
"When President Trump said, 'The moon is ours,' I think he didn't mean that it was their property, but he meant the hope that American astronauts would set foot on the moon very soon," Peskov said at a briefing.
The Kremlin representative noted that such an event would be a victory not only for the United States, but for all mankind, as well as a significant step in space exploration. According to Peskov, such achievements can only be welcomed.
Commenting on Washington's policy of renaming various facilities, Peskov stressed that Russia adheres to international procedures in naming territories. The president's press secretary also spoke out against the idea of "privatizing" outer space. He noted that space should remain a platform for interaction, not for confrontation.
On September 7, Trump posted on his Truth Social network an image with an American flag on the Moon. It was accompanied by the caption: "The moon is ours." The post has gained thousands of likes.
