The Russian suffered almost total lung damage due to vaping
A young resident of Vladivostok suffered almost total lung damage due to vaping. The patient was admitted with high fever and respiratory failure. This was announced on September 6 by the Ministry of Health of Primorsky Krai.
"A young man with high fever, respiratory failure and almost total lung damage was admitted to the pulmonology department of the city hospital No. 1. The diagnosis is vape—associated lung damage," the Telegram channel says.
Due to timely diagnosis and treatment, the patient managed to avoid artificial ventilation. He now faces months of therapy with systemic steroids. Doctors do not yet know whether the lung tissue will fully recover or fibrosis will form.
Elena Samoylenko, head of the Pulmonology department, warned that replacing regular cigarettes with vapes does not make smoking safe. According to her, the symptoms of lung damage are similar to pneumonia, but antibiotics do not help.
On August 16, the Ostankino Court of Moscow, at the request of the prosecutor, banned access to resources where tobacco products were sold — cigarettes and cigarillos. It was clarified that advertising and promotion of tobacco products are an administrative offense, for which a fine is provided.
Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin said on August 9 that the regions should actively use the right to ban the retail sale of vapes and liquids to them, as well as other electronic nicotine delivery systems.
