Russia has updated clinical guidelines for the treatment of children with acute respiratory viral infections: new drugs have appeared, as well as the possibility of using phytotherapy. This is evidenced on September 4 by an updated document on the website of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

The updated version notes that ARVI in most cases is a mild disease that resolves on its own and does not require the appointment of medications. Experts have also pointed to the effectiveness of some home-based methods, including the use of honey, lemon, and herbal teas to relieve symptoms.

One of the changes was the inclusion of phytotherapy in the list of acceptable treatment methods. Children with acute tracheitis and a productive cough with difficult-to-separate sputum, in the absence of contraindications, may be prescribed drugs based on ivy leaf extract, as well as a combination of primrose root extracts and thyme herb.

In addition, several medications have been added to the recommendations. In particular, baloxavir marboxil can be used for moderate influenza, including in patients at risk. Umifenovir is recommended for children over two years of age in the first 24-48 hours of illness with influenza or acute respiratory viral infections of other etiology to reduce viral replication.

The document also clarifies that dehydration can increase the risk of side effects of antipyretic drugs. In this regard, children with acute respiratory viral infections and fever should be provided with an adequate drinking regime.

On August 20, general practitioner Evgenia Kruzhkova told how to strengthen immunity to the onset of autumn. She called for starting with restoring sleep patterns, as well as supporting the intestines, which are closely linked to the work of the immune system. In addition, the specialist advised to move more: exercise, walk daily and spend more time outdoors.
