In Russia, there is a collapse of the system of proper nutrition due to the frequent consumption of fast food and the lack of a clear meal schedule for citizens. This was announced on September 2 by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Education Gennady Onishchenko.

"There are such opportunities that require great efforts from the point of view of the vital system, such as the withdrawal of fast food, refined products, and garbage from circulation," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The academician urged Russians to give up harmful foods in order to prevent obesity. He stressed that fast food and the transition to industrial nutrition are the collapse of the very eating regime, and when a person eats continuously, he does not have a full breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and this also plays a role.

The Russian Society of Endocrinologists has prepared a draft of new clinical guidelines for the treatment of obesity in adults, which should replace the 2024 version. One of the innovations will be the term "overweight" for patients with a body mass index above 50 kg/m2. Before surgery, they will need to reduce their weight by at least 5%, and treatment will be supervised by several specialists with the possibility of referral directly to federal centers.
