- The United States called the purpose of the strikes on Iran to prevent the mining of Hormuz
The US armed forces carried out limited strikes against units of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which, according to the American command, were engaged in laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz. This was announced on August 30 by the Central Command of the US Armed Forces (CENTCOM).
CENTCOM rejected the Iranian side's claims that the actions of the US military were an "act of aggression" against Iran.
"The FACT is that American forces have taken limited but precise actions against the IRGC forces laying mines and posing an immediate threat in the Strait of Hormuz," reads a post on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
According to the command, the purpose of the operation was to eliminate the danger to civilian sailors, commercial vessels and international traffic.
On August 30, Axios journalist Barak Ravid reported that the US Armed Forces had attacked two launchers on Larek Island in southern Iran, killing two people and injuring two others.
The IRGC later confirmed the information about the US drone strike on the island of Larek, promising to respond to the attack. In turn, the Iranian Press TV channel reported that numerous explosions occurred in Jordan after the Iranian strikes. Fox News correspondent Trey Ingst clarified that the US military was the target of the attacks. According to him, almost all the missiles were intercepted.
