Starting from September 1, Russia will introduce state control over certain types of industrial products, including construction materials. The new measure is expected to help improve the quality of products on the market. This was announced on August 30 by Gennady Abramenkov, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia.

"We want to create a system that precisely guarantees the consumer that he uses high-quality building materials. And in case of non—compliance, recall him before he gets to this construction site. The manufacturer will have to eliminate the discrepancy at its own expense," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The Deputy Head of the department noted that the decision to return this measure was made on the initiative of the Russian business. According to him, in the five years since the mechanism was abolished, the market has felt negative consequences. At the same time, the number of counterfeit products has increased significantly in certain categories of goods.

As Abramenkov pointed out, in some cases unscrupulous manufacturers provide a product sample for certification that fully meets the established requirements. However, after receiving the certificate, goods of inadequate quality may enter the market.

The deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade explained that unscrupulous manufacturers can set lower prices by reducing costs and thereby gain a competitive advantage. According to him, due to this situation, bona fide companies, in particular representatives of the building materials industry, began to contact the department.

On August 17, the press service of the Federal Antimonopoly Service announced that the agency would check the reasons for the increase in prices for construction fittings for possible violations of antimonopoly legislation. According to the FAS, during joint monitoring with the Ministry of Construction of Russia and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, an increase in the cost of fittings in the domestic market was recorded.
