Drinking non-alcoholic beer before driving is not prohibited, however, after several bottles, the ethanol level in the body may increase, and the smell of the drink may cause an inspector to check. Andrey Sergeev, a doctor of the highest category, a narcologist at the Irkutsk Regional Neuropsychiatric dispensary, told about this on August 30.

According to the expert, even non-alcoholic beer can affect the driver's attention and reaction. For some people, it creates a feeling of drinking alcohol because of the familiar taste and ritual.

"I do not recommend getting behind the wheel after drinking non-alcoholic beer..."If you drank several cans or bottles in a row, and then got behind the wheel, the total ethanol level may approach or exceed the threshold of the acceptable indicator," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The narcologist also added that non-alcoholic beer is not suitable for people with alcohol dependence: for them, it can become an intermediate stage of returning to drinking regular alcohol. According to the agency's interlocutor, non-alcoholic beer cannot cause the effect of toxic intoxication necessary for a person with alcohol dependence syndrome.

Psychiatrist-narcologist Marina Kalyuzhnaya said on May 29 that there are no precise household signs by which one can say for sure that alcohol has worn off and it is possible to get behind the wheel. It was noted that the feeling of sobriety returns much earlier than alcohol actually leaves the blood, she added.
