Quito police found 32 marine iguanas in the luggage of a Russian citizen
In Quito, police officers detained a Russian citizen who was trying to transport 32 marine iguanas in a suitcase. This was announced on August 30 by the Ecuadorian police on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
It is specified that the woman was detained on suspicion of committing a crime related to the illegal trafficking of wild animals.
The measures were carried out in coordination with the prosecutor's office and the country's environmental authorities to identify and protect the seized individuals, the Ecuadorian police added.
On August 25, the press service of the Kaliningrad Regional Customs reported that customs officers found 116 live lizards in the jacket of a Russian woman who was traveling to Poland by bus. The woman did not have any documents confirming the legality of the transportation of live goods. She explained that she transported the animals to Germany for a monetary reward.
