The divine services on the day of the Beheading of John the Baptist on September 10-11 are distinguished by a special character and are associated with the Day of Sobriety. In a conversation with Izvestia, the priest, cleric of the church of the Great Martyr George the Victorious in the city of Vidnoye, John Stepanchuk, reported this.

"The divine services on the day of the Beheading of John the Baptist on September 10-11 are special — they reflect both sorrow for the martyrdom of the prophet and a call to spiritual asceticism," the clergyman noted.

Since 2014, the Holy Synod has restored the celebration of Sobriety Day on this day. Therefore, after the liturgy, many churches offer a prayer service for those suffering from the ailment of wine drinking or drug addiction. The litany of peace also includes special petitions for deliverance from these addictions.
