Russians were warned about a scheme with fake letters from the Federal Tax Service

Fraudsters began sending mass messages to Russians on behalf of representatives of the Federal Tax Service (FTS) with information about alleged debts and the need to provide documents. This was announced on August 27 by Evgeny Masharov, a member of the commission of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation for public control and work with citizens' appeals.

"False employees of the Federal Tax Service send letters in messengers, SMS messages, via e-mail, where they inform a citizen that he has unpaid taxes and arrears, or documents have not been submitted, or it is necessary to file a declaration or explanations," Masharov said in an interview with TASS.

According to him, such messages contain links to fake pages. After clicking on them, a malicious program can be downloaded to the device, which gets access to the user's personal and bank data.

On August 26, Masharov reported that before the start of the school year, fraudsters began sending messages to teachers about registering on an allegedly new educational platform to enter data on school performance. According to the expert, the attackers claim that the initiative is allegedly linked to the Ministry of Education of Russia and is aimed at improving the quality of education and preparation for the OGE and USE.
