The astrophysicist spoke about the consequences for humans when falling into a black hole.

A person trapped inside a supermassive black hole will theoretically be able to see the processes that take millions of years in the outer universe. This was announced on August 26 by Sergey Pilipenko, senior researcher at the Department of Theoretical Astrophysics and Cosmology at the FIAN Astrocosmic Center.

"Time on the [spacecraft] will accelerate so much [when entering a black hole] that its inhabitants will be able to see the movements of stars and even galaxies, which took millions of years to complete outside," the scientist said in a conversation with RIA Novosti.

According to Pilipenko, getting inside a supermassive black hole is easier than getting into a stellar-mass object. In the latter case, powerful tidal forces can destroy a falling object even before crossing the event horizon.

In a supermassive black hole, this effect is weaker, so the spacecraft is able to overcome the event horizon. With the engines turned off, the crew will be in zero gravity and will not feel a sudden change at the moment of crossing it.

After that, it will be impossible to observe the ship from the outside, the scientist suggests. For those inside, the image of the outer space will be strongly distorted, and the light of the stars will shift to the blue region of the spectrum, clarifies "Газета.Ru ".

As it falls further towards the center of the black hole, tidal forces will begin to increase and eventually destroy the ship, Pilipenko noted.
