- Nvidia has signed a $6 billion deal to create a competitor to China's AI models
Technology giant Nvidia has signed a $6 billion deal with AI startup Poolside to create a powerful artificial intelligence model. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on August 22, citing sources.
According to the publication, the purpose of the agreement is to develop technologies capable of competing with Chinese models DeepSeek and Kimi K3. For $6 billion, Nvidia will get the right to use the development of the Poolside and hire most of the startup's engineers.
The founders of Lakeside have already notified shareholders about the significant reorganization of the company. According to them, cooperation with Nvidia is designed to prevent monopolization of the industry.
"The deal with Nvidia is designed to prevent artificial intelligence from becoming a 'closed technology controlled by a small number of people' in the future," the startup's management noted.
On July 0, the Financial Times reported that the world's largest financial companies, together with Nvidia, plan to raise about $500 billion to finance the development of infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI). This deal, as noted in the publication, is explained by the growing need for Nvidia and its customers to finance the production of chips, the construction of data centers and the creation of energy infrastructure for AI.
