Drones attacked the VOLGO-BALT 226 vessel operated by a Turkish company in the Black Sea. This was announced on August 21 by the maritime information portal Maritime Voice.

"The VOLGO-BALT 226 vessel operated by a Turkish company was attacked by drones in the Black Sea <...> the bridge and living quarters of the vessel were seriously damaged," the portal said in a message on the social network X.

According to the source, there are 11 people on board: 10 Azerbaijani citizens and one Georgian citizen. No one was injured in the incident.

"Despite the damage received, the ship continues its course to Trabzon," the publication says.

The governor of the Kherson region, Vladimir Saldo, said on the same day that Kiev risked retaliatory measures from Turkey due to attacks on civilian vessels in the Black Sea. He noted that Ankara has already demonstrated the possibility of using restrictions on the passage of ships through the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles as a tool of pressure on Kiev.

The situation worsened after a series of attacks on civilian vessels. On August 7, the Haber Denizde portal reported a drone attack on the Turkish-flagged cargo ship MV Gullük off the coast of Novorossiysk. On August 8, Bloomberg announced that Turkey was restricting the passage of merchant ships through the Dardanelles to the Black Sea.
