It was very difficult to arrange the transfer of the relics of St. Spyridon of Trimifunt to Russia. This was announced on August 20 by Vakhtang Kipshidze, Deputy Chairman of the Synodal Department of the Moscow Patriarchate for Church-Society Relations and the media.

"Of course, it was not an easy process, which required, on the one hand, organizational efforts, on the other hand, a certain determination on the part of the Greek church hierarchs, who are under pressure," he said on the Vesti news channel.

The representative of the Russian Orthodox Church noted that when considering the organization of the transportation of relics, the Russian side took into account the Russophobic hysteria that exists in a number of European countries. Because the so-called abolition of Russian culture not only restricts cultural ties between the peoples of Western Europe, but also extends to the religious sphere.

The offering of the relics is performed with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. The ark with the holy relics arrived in Russia from the Greek island of Corfu on August 17. Until September 20, it will be possible to worship at the shrine in 13 Russian regions.
