The Pskov region has stopped the illegal import of tobacco products from Belarus to Russia. A KAMAZ cargo truck from St. Petersburg was stopped in the south of the region, the press service of the North-Western Customs Administration reports.

Operatives found 120,000 packs of unmarked Belarusian cigarettes in the back of the vehicle. The total market value of the batch exceeds 18.3 million rubles.

It turned out that the cargo was accompanied by foreign citizens. In the Tver region, they wanted to transfer illegal products to their accomplices for further sale.

A criminal case has been opened under Part 3 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (tobacco smuggling committed by an organized criminal group on a large scale). Two defendants were detained.

Now the attackers are in custody, writes 78.ru . The group of smugglers faces up to 12 years in prison. Investigative actions are underway.
