Preparing a car for the autumn season will require an average of up to 20 thousand rubles in Moscow and about 10-15 thousand rubles in the regions. Artur Sarukhanov, Deputy Head of the Department for Work with Importers at Gazprombank Autoleasing, told Izvestia on August 19.

"You can't skimp on safety (various sensors, brake pads and discs), as well as on oil and fuel, which can cause engine and transmission failure," the expert noted.

According to Sarukhanov, before the onset of cold weather, first of all it is necessary to check the condition of the battery. When the temperature drops, a faulty or worn-out battery can drain faster, even if it worked without noticeable problems during the warm period. The normal value of a 12 V battery voltage without load is considered to be in the range of 12.5–12.7 V, and the average service life of the device is about five years.

Also, before the autumn rains, the condition of the summer tires should be assessed. The remaining tread depth should be at least 1.6 mm, in addition, it is important to check the uniformity of wear, the absence of damage, deep cracks and hernias. The expert recommended replacing the wiper blades if they leave streaks, as visibility requirements become higher in autumn due to reduced daylight hours and worsening weather.

Sarukhanov added that after the dusty summer season, it is advisable to replace the filters and check the condition of the engine oil. In some cases, the replacement can be combined with the beginning of the autumn period, without waiting for the set mileage. In addition, drivers should purchase winter detergent in advance to avoid problems during the first frost.

Special attention should be paid to the brake system, brake fluid level and cooling system before the cold weather. Temperature fluctuations can reveal leaks in the connecting elements. Also, due to constant transitions through zero, rubber suspension parts can wear out faster - silent blocks, stabilizer bushings, shock absorber bushings and dust covers.

According to the specialist, it is recommended to check the suspension condition at least once a year on the lift. An additional reason for diagnosis may be a deterioration in the handling of the car, the appearance of uneven tire wear and the feeling that the car reacts worse to the steering wheel.

Sarukhanov clarified that the total cost of preparing a car depends on its class, condition, selected service center and the region of work. On average, the complex may include diagnostics of the braking system, suspension, steering, checking of technical fluids, as well as replacing the battery, filters and wiper blades, if necessary.

To reduce costs, the expert recommended first conducting a full diagnosis in a reliable service, and then comparing prices for individual works. In some cases, it is more profitable to contact different specialists to perform specific procedures. You can also save money by choosing high-quality analogues of original parts and self-replacing simple consumables such as lamps or filters.

At the same time, as Sarukhanov emphasized, savings should not relate to elements that directly affect traffic safety, as well as oil and fuel, since their quality can affect the operation of the engine and transmission.

Nikita Rodionov, technical director of the international franchise network of car service Fit Service, warned on July 29 that refilling gasoline after the first click of the filling gun is not recommended due to overload of the vapor capture system, the risk of expensive breakage and creating conditions for leaks and fire.
