The United States has assigned the highest threat level to the outbreak of salmonella

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has raised the risk level of egg recalls to the maximum due to an outbreak of salmonellosis that has affected residents of several states. This was announced on August 14 by the American TV channel Fox Business.

"According to the updated information from the FDA on July 24, about 98 people fell ill in 17 states, 26 were hospitalized. No deaths have been registered," the text of the message says.

The reason for the increased threat level was an outbreak of infection related to eggs from Midwest Poultry Services. The manufacturer had previously voluntarily recalled more than 1.5 million boxes of free-range egg packages with white and brown shells.

The recall has been upgraded to the Class I category, which is applied in cases where there is a high probability that the use of a dangerous product may lead to serious health consequences or death.

The recalled products were sold under several brands. The product was distributed through stores and catering establishments in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Mississippi and other regions. The majority of the cases — 73 people — lived in Texas.

The FDA noted that shipments have been confirmed to the listed states, but some of the products could have reached other regions of the country. According to the agency, the source of the infection was identified during routine environmental inspections at two farms in Texas where the recalled eggs were produced.
