Russian financial assets worth 8.5 billion Swiss francs ($10.4 billion) have been frozen in Switzerland. This was announced on August 15 by the official representative of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of the country (SECO) Fabian Mayenfisch.

"As of June 1, 2026, financial assets worth 8.5 billion Swiss francs have been frozen in Switzerland," he said in an interview with TASS.

A year earlier, the volume of blocked assets amounted to 7.4 billion francs ($8.4 billion). In addition to cash, 14 real estate objects remain frozen in Switzerland, as well as cars, works of art, furniture and musical instruments belonging to sanctioned individuals and organizations.

Separately from this amount, the reserves and assets of the Central Bank of Russia are blocked in the country. In June, their volume amounted to 6.8 billion francs ($8.3 billion), while a year earlier the figure reached 7.2 billion francs ($8.1 billion).

On August 6, Finnish Freedom Alliance party Armando Mema noted that the European Union (EU) should return frozen assets to Russia. He stressed that such a strategy could not lead to a resolution of the conflict, but would only strengthen Russia's response. The politician called the use of Russian assets "theft" and said that such a practice indicates the difficulties of the EU with financing.

The Consul General of the Russian Federation in Geneva, Igor Popov, said that Switzerland is involved in the hunt for assets of Russian individuals and legal entities. According to him, Bern has joined all anti—Russian sanctions - not only the European packages, but also the American and Canadian ones that were introduced earlier.
