More than 56 million doses of flu vaccines will be delivered to Russian regions. This was announced on August 15 by Assistant Minister of Health Alexei Kuznetsov.

"The start of deliveries to the regions is scheduled for the end of August," he told RIA Novosti.

According to Kuznetsov, the production of vaccines started in March after the publication of the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) on the strain composition.

As the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, noted on July 23, domestic vaccines in the new epidemic season will be enough to carry out an inoculation campaign. Vaccination is planned to be carried out at the expense of the federal budget, the necessary funding has already been provided.

First of all, vaccinations will be given to children, pensioners, people with chronic diseases and specialists who come into contact with a large number of people by their occupation. Popova recommended starting vaccination in September.

Gennady Onishchenko, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Education, stressed on August 9 that the influenza A (H1N1) virus, known as swine flu, has a high pandemic potential, and new dangerous strains usually appear about once every 10 years. He also noted that one should not fear a new pandemic.
