Russians were advised to disable personalized responses in smart speakers
The Russian Interior Ministry recommended disabling personalized responses when using smart speakers to protect privacy. This was reported on August 15 by RIA Novosti with reference to the Department for the Organization of the Fight against Cybercrime (UBK) of the department.
It is noted that companies collect data about user preferences — favorite music, questions, interests — which are then used for targeted advertising and profile creation. Disabling personalized responses will prevent the column from using the history of searches and queries to generate responses, which increases privacy.
In addition, a child may accidentally place an order or turn on dangerous devices. The agency recommended disabling voice purchases in account settings, and in the smart home system, prohibiting the speaker from controlling critical devices through in-app settings.
Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy and federal coordinator of the Digital Russia project of the United Russia party, said on August 11 that attackers began to convince Russian citizens to install an allegedly protective application on their gadgets. In fact, the uploaded resource will allow them to obtain personal data of the victims. It was clarified that by implementing the appropriate scheme, fraudsters put pressure on their interlocutor using professional terminology and deprive him of the opportunity to come to his senses.
