Guide in Action: Find a Mate in "40 Nights" and Survive a "Flight Crash"

The director of the body horror "Eat, Pray, Lose Weight" ridicules the obsessive desire to lose weight, and the creators of the romantic comedy "40 Dates, 40 Nights" are dating apps. The heroes of the fantastic action movie "Time Trap" will have to challenge the system, and the characters of the movie "Flight Crash" will have to survive a plane crash and a meeting with sharks. Izvestia has compiled a guide to new movies that are worth watching in theaters next weekend.

At the center of the story is Leah, who has lost faith in love. But failures in her personal life worry her no less than the housing issue. However, there is a condition: Leah can't start a relationship with someone until she meets with all the candidates.

The romcom makes fun of the realities of the modern world, when the search for a couple turns into an endless pipeline of online dating. And empty meetings and conversations replace the important thing — mutual understanding with oneself. The main question of the film sounds quite simple: is it possible to plan love and meet its deadline? The answer, of course, is predictable. The film is unlikely to surprise the sophisticated viewer, but it will offer an easy and friendly look at the current problem.

"The last frontier", 18+

The action takes place in December 1944. The Ardennes operation. After completing the task unsuccessfully, almost the entire squad of American soldiers is killed. Only Captain John Castle remains alive, who has only one goal — to get to his own people. He embarks on a risky journey through the territory occupied by the Nazis.

The creators did not shoot an epic, but focused on the story of one man who found himself surrounded by enemies. The hero does not know what awaits him around the next bend. And Scott Eastwood's acting, which shows physical exhaustion and genuine fear in his movements and facial expressions, gives the drama credibility.

"Flight crash", 18+

According to the story, during an international flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai, a technical malfunction occurs on board the aircraft and a fire occurs. The pilots manage to make an emergency landing right in the middle of the open ocean. However, for the survivors, the problems are just beginning. Because of the destroyed hull, the plane quickly goes under water, and people become bait for sharks.

"I want the country to discuss "War and peace," not some rubbish"

Directed by Sergey Ursulyak, it is about two parallel adaptations of Tolstoy, competition with Sarik Andreasyan and the magic of Soviet cinema.

The film's director, Rennie Harlin, refers to the tradition of disaster films popular in the 1970s, featuring spectacular action, dynamics and a large number of characters. Therefore, you should not expect complicated dramaturgy from the novelty.

"The Time Trap", 18+

The action of the fantastic action movie takes us into the near future. The Third World War had devastating consequences for humanity. The territory of North America is divided into several zones, and it was possible to prevent the complete extinction of humans thanks to the efforts of scientist Iona Prescott and his company Alpire. At the same time, the corporation created the deadly Onyx nanovirus, which spreads through special watches. To receive the antidote, an infected person must follow the system's order by eliminating the designated target.

The filmmakers relied primarily on dynamics. Endless chases, shootouts, and confrontations between the characters and the system leave the viewer no room for long reflection. The film is based on the theme of the price of human life, but it remains only a backdrop and gives way to a spectacular attraction.

"Eat, pray, lose weight", 18+

If the famous melodrama "Eat, Pray, Love" based on the novel of the same name by Elizabeth Gilbert told about a heroine who is looking for herself, then the new body horror "Eat, Pray, lose weight" (a reference in the Russian title of the film) is about a girl who, on the contrary, loses herself in the pursuit of perfection. The desire to lose weight becomes an addiction and soon turns her life into a nightmare. The film was nominated for the Teddy Award for Best Feature Film at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival.

At the center of the story is a medical student named Hana. Due to chronic stress and lack of love, the girl suffers from compulsive overeating, and exhausting workouts and constant dieting do not help her lose weight in any way. The turning point is Hana's meeting with her high school friend Melissa, who lost weight with the help of clandestine pills. However, these pills have a questionable composition. Hana decides to make an analog on her own. The pills work, but they cause a strange side effect — a hungry, aggressive ghost begins to haunt the girl. He becomes a form of that obsession that sits inside the heroine.
