Automatic weapons test: Kalashnikov presented upgraded weapons for special forces
The smell of gunpowder, the sounds of single shots, falling shell casings — in the Patriot Park near Moscow, the Kalashnikov concern presented several samples of weapons designed for special forces. The silent Vintorez rifle, the Val submachine gun, the CP-2 submachine gun and the small-sized CP-3 submachine gun are actively used in special operations today. All of them are regularly updated based on the feedback of the fighters.
Vintorez rifle and Val submachine gun
We arrived at the Kalashnikov Concern shooting range near Moscow, located in Patriot Park, around noon. By this time, samples of weapons had already been placed on the stands, and representatives of the concern were ready to talk in detail about them. Soon there was a smell of gunpowder and shots rang out — the gathered journalists, of whom, according to tradition, there were many, were given a chance to try out their weapons.
Kalashnikov has been organizing such events for the fifth year now. The current one was called the jubilee one by the concern.
The tension of the competition was mixed with a friendly atmosphere: the journalists were divided into two groups, the strongest were determined, and then an exciting finale was played. Picking up a legendary weapon and testing your own accuracy is an experience that always leaves a vivid impression.
However, the main event of the day was a demonstration of weapons by professionals and a story about their use in real combat conditions.
The Hero of Russia, a special forces officer with the call sign Seaman, showed his weapon in action. According to him, these are effective and reliable samples suitable for performing special tasks in the special operation zone. He noted that the Vintorez rifle has proven itself well in urban combat conditions, since its cartridge has a low probability of ricochet, which is important in confined spaces.
The development of special forces weapons is a very important area for Kalashnikov, said Alan Lushnikov, CEO of the concern, during the presentation.
— We strive to ensure that each of our customers, each of our units can perform combat missions with what we design, what we produce. Val, Vintorez, CP-2 are products with a long and glorious history. They are in high demand and are constantly changing," he stressed.
The special sniper rifle (VSS) Vintorez was developed by order of the KGB of the USSR at Tsniitochmash, designed for special forces of the army, law enforcement agencies and state security.
The creators faced a difficult task: it was necessary to make a rifle that would not require changing the silencer. Besides, it would be more reliable and convenient for covert work than a standard Kalashnikov assault rifle. The result is a sample that can be disassembled in a minute.
— The rifle allows you to fire normally at a range of up to 400 m and penetrate second—level personal protective equipment, - said the rifle's developer, Hero of Labor of the Russian Federation Peter Serdyukov.
The secret of high efficiency was the use of special 9x39 mm caliber cartridges — SP-5 and SP-6. In addition, due to non-standard design solutions, the weapon turned out to be light and compact.
Shortly after the creation of the rifle, a special automatic rifle (AS) "Val" was developed on its basis. Both samples are 70% unified with each other and look similar to each other.
Subsequently, as part of the Ratnik development work, the rifle and submachine gun were upgraded. The resource and ergonomic characteristics have been improved. The wooden stock was replaced with a plastic one with adjustable pads and backrests.
We added Picatinny rails for installing lanterns and designators. It is also possible to install sighting equipment with an upper mount. This allows you to install night vision devices, thermal imagers and optical sights on the weapon.
What are the CP-2 submachine gun and the CP-3 submachine gun?
Later, the task was set to develop a small-sized automatic machine based on the "Shaft".
"It was necessary to create concealed—carry weapons for the same silent cartridge, which would provide the ability to fire in a confined space," said Vadim Malinnikov, head of the small arms department.
As a result, the CP-3 was developed, a small—sized automatic. At the first stage, he was without a silencer, but during the modernization he received it, which expanded the tactical possibilities of using weapons.
The CP-2 submachine gun received a lot of attention during the presentation. Despite the fact that weapons of this class operate, as a rule, on the principle of a free shutter, the CP-2 uses the principle of discharge of powder gases, as in the Kalashnikov assault rifle. This is possible because it has a very powerful 9x21mm cartridge with a muzzle velocity of 470 m/s.
The submachine gun allows for targeted shooting at a distance of up to 200 m and hits targets protected by a second-class bulletproof vest. During the upgrade, Picatinny rails were also added to the weapon.
"Butts have been developed for the CP-2 and CP-3 that allow special forces to fire with visored helmets,— Vadim Malinnikov said.
All the samples presented are used during a special military operation.
— We receive feedback from our participants. They tell us about both positive and negative aspects. We take them into account. We also provide technical assistance and help extend the service life of these products," Vadim Malinnikov said.
Earlier, Izvestia reported how Kalashnikov introduced a line of small arms chambered for 5,45. The RPL-20 machine guns were demonstrated in two versions: a full—size version for arming motorized rifle units and a compact version with a shortened barrel for assault and amphibious units.
They also showed the AK-12 assault rifle of the 2023 model, modified based on the experience of use during a special military operation. And two of its new modifications. The first is a shortened AK-12K for assault units. This machine has received improved technical, ergonomic and operational characteristics that meet the requirements of modern combat. The second is the small—sized AK-12SK. It is designed for those who do not have small arms as their main weapon, such as UAV operators, driver mechanics, and others who primarily need compactness.
