Alexey Pykhov, a resident of Khabarovsk, jumped with the Russian flag from a 145-meter high-rise in Malaysia during the Terengganu International Basejump Challenge, taking second place. In a comment to Izvestia on August 13, the Russian said that he has been practicing this sport since 2013.

100 athletes participated in the competition for prizes. Pykhov showed an outstanding result by making 14 jumps from a high-rise building. The Russian noted that festival organizers in Malaysia are very fond of jumping with flags to make a real show. This has been agreed with the local authorities.

"This is far from my first flag jump at festivals in Malaysia, and this one was no exception. Athletes from New Zealand, Australia, the USA, Great Britain, Thailand, China, Russia, Malaysia participated in the event. We are usually told in advance to bring flags with us," the Khabarovsk resident said.

During the jump itself, the canvas is removed from the satchel attached to the back, along with the parachute.

"I've been studying for 13 years now, and it's coming soon. He started with rope jumping, in Russian - "bungee jumping", in English rope jumping. I didn't have enough freedom of flight, quantity and quality of objects there. When the parachute appeared, he began to choose more interesting places where he could quickly jump off and quickly escape so that no one would notice you. Plus, there are such festivals all over the world, where I sometimes appear," said the winner.

Pykhov noted that jumping from high—altitude objects is a traumatic type of sports. In particular, 10 participants died during jumps from a 421-meter tower in Kuala Lumpur at the Kale Tower International Jump festival over the years. The athlete hails from Amursk, a small town in the Far East, in the Khabarovsk Territory.

"I have a special destiny, how I got into this kind of activity. The fact is that boys and girls who have jumped from an airplane at least 100 times are usually accepted for training. In my case, I lived in a remote town in the Far East, where there were few simple parachute jumps from aircraft. But I found someone who trained me, and I started my career in base jumping without skydiving at all. There are few such people," he added.

It is known that Alexey decided to make an additional jump with the flag of his native country, despite adverse weather conditions and strong winds. The air current carried him towards the sea, but the athlete successfully landed in a clearing, notes "Газета.Ru ".
