The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has begun checking the validity of the increase in wholesale prices for poultry and beef. This became known on August 12 from information on the antimonopoly authority's website.

"Manufacturers should provide information on the reasons for the increase in wholesale prices since the beginning of this year," the statement says.

The FAS also demanded to provide data on the quantity and sale of manufactured goods, selling prices and profitability of meat sales. Antimonopoly response measures will be taken upon the inspection.

The newspaper Kommersant reported on May 5 that private poultry market owners are discussing with regulators and industry unions the introduction of minimum and maximum prices for C1 eggs in Russia. The initiative is being discussed with regulators and relevant associations.

On April 8, Maxim Shaskolsky, head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service of the Russian Federation, said that the increase and subsequent decrease in prices for chicken eggs in Russia are related to natural market mechanisms.
