Khusnullin spoke about his tough decision that surprised Putin.

On August 11, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin told how he proposed to President Vladimir Putin to dismiss a number of regional officials due to their failure to implement plans for road construction, which surprised the Russian leader.

"You know, when I started working in the government in 2020, eight regions failed to implement the road construction plan in the first year. I came with a report to President Putin and proposed to remove those responsible for the disrupted site — deputy governors, regional ministers and customers," Khusnullin said in an interview with TASS.

According to him, the Russian president asked why it was decided to act so harshly. Khusnullin explained that receiving budget funds should be accompanied by timely completion of planned work, and such an approach would become an example for other regions.

After that, Putin instructed to further work out the issue with the presidential administration and the heads of the regions. As a result, eight officials were dismissed from their posts.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that after this incident, no region had failed to fulfill its annual road construction plans.
