Brazil sharply increased uranium imports from Russia to a record high

Uranium imports from Russia to Brazil in July 2026 rose to the highest level since at least 1997. This is evidenced by data from the Brazilian State statistical Service, which was reviewed by RIA Novosti on August 11.

According to the data, Brazil purchased $84.5 million worth of Russian uranium in a month. This volume has become the largest in the entire period of available statistics. Compared to June, shipments increased 168 times, from $504,000 to $84.5 million. In annual terms, the growth was 172 times: in July 2025, the volume of imports amounted to $492 thousand.

Due to a sharp increase in supplies, Russia took the first place among suppliers of uranium to Brazil in July. A month earlier, as well as a year earlier, the Russian Federation was in fifth position. The top five suppliers also included the United States with supplies of $2.9 million, Argentina — $ 2.5 million, Italy — $1.5 million and Germany — $994 thousand.

On July 30, Bloomberg noted Russia's key role in the US nuclear energy industry. The publication noted that last year, reactor operators in the United States purchased about 3.28 million units of uranium separation from Russia, which is almost 26% of the total purchases.
