Pierre de Gaulle declared France's violation of the spirit of the Minsk agreements
France violated the spirit of the Minsk agreements, using them as an opportunity to strengthen Ukraine's military potential. This was announced on August 11 by Pierre de Gaulle, grandson of former French President Charles de Gaulle, Deputy chairman of the jury of the Leo Tolstoy Peace Prize.
"France, like Germany, was a guarantor of the Minsk agreements of 2014 and 2015, but France's word was violated when President Francois Hollande, as well as [the former German Chancellor] Angela Merkel said that these agreements were just a trick and were needed only to give Ukraine time to rearm," de Gaulle told RIA Novosti.
He noted that the statements of the former leaders of France and Germany about the role of the Minsk Agreements became painful for him as a French citizen and stressed that Paris, in his opinion, had not fulfilled its obligations to comply with the spirit of the agreements.
On August 3, Merkel told pranksters Vovan (Vladimir Kuznetsov) and Lexus (Alexey Stolyarov) that the Minsk agreements were needed in order to gain time to supply Ukraine with weapons. She also asked that everything she said be kept secret. According to the pranksters, they were talking to Merkel on behalf of former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
On June 28, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Moscow had information that Kiev and Western countries were initially not going to implement the Minsk agreements. Putin stressed that Belarus has always provided its territory for negotiations.
