Renowned Australian wine expert Matthew Jukes has died in Portugal.

British wine expert Matthew Jukes died suddenly while on vacation in Portugal at the age of 58. This was reported on August 9 by The Telegraph newspaper.

"Jukes, who died suddenly while on vacation in Portugal at the age of 58, was one of the UK's busiest and most respected wine experts," the publication says.

Jukes was born on September 17, 1967. He developed an interest in wine as a child while living in Brussels, where his father worked. According to the expert himself, getting to know different types of drinks at a young age was the beginning of his passion for wine culture.

He gained the most fame thanks to the project "100 best Australian wines", for which he was called the "Crocodile Dundee of Australian winemaking". Since 2004, the initiative has grown from a simple list into a large-scale event with tastings, workshops and festivals.

In 2012, the wine expert received the honorary award "Australian of the Year" from the Australia Day Foundation. He also became known as the creator of the Jukes Cordialities non-alcoholic line.

It is specified that Jukes has a wife, Amelia, two daughters and two sons.
