Reuters has learned about the imminent completion of the Iran-Oman deal on the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has announced the proximity of an agreement with Oman on a new shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, but its conclusion alone will not lead to the opening of the waterway. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on August 8.

"The Iran—Oman agreement over the strait is seen as vital to a broader deal to end the war that began with the U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28 and led to Tehran taking control of this crucial energy export route," the article says.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that Tehran and Muscat are "very close" to an agreement. According to him, the previous scheme of ship traffic separation is no longer acceptable to Iran. The parties are discussing a temporary route while the technical and legal issues of a permanent one are being resolved.

The representative of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hossein Mohebbi, in turn, noted that the opening of the strait depends on Washington's acceptance of Tehran's conditions and is not related to negotiations with Oman.

"As soon as the United States accepts Iran's conditions, the Strait of Hormuz will definitely be reopened," he said.
