Bloomberg pointed to the deterioration of the negotiating positions of Ukraine and the West

Delays in the supply of anti-aircraft missiles for air defense may force Kiev and the West to give in to the demands of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This opinion was expressed on August 8 by Bloomberg columnist Mark Champion.

According to him, due to the slowdown in the supply of anti-aircraft ammunition, Ukraine will not be able to maintain the current intensity of operations for a long time, especially the shortage of missiles for air defense. Italy and France are discussing the transfer of ammunition for SAMP/T to Kiev, but their stocks are limited.

"France and Italy are discussing the supply of parts of their Patriot—type air defense systems to Kiev, but the available supply of interceptors is even smaller than for the American version," the article says.

The champion identified three ways for the West: an urgent search for weapons, an agreement with Russia's demands for the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Donbass, or the continuation of the conflict until 2027, taking into account the difficult winter. Negotiations are unlikely at this stage, as Putin sees impending changes in his favor.

On the same day, CNN reported that the gaps in the Ukrainian air defense system may be increasing. The U.S. military has used up almost four-fifths of THAAD systems, and Patriot interceptor stocks have roughly halved since the start of the war. It is one of the few weapons capable of shooting down ballistic missiles, the channel reports.
