- The head of the Military Academy spoke about the impact of the Paralympians on children with disabilities
The strength of spirit and courage of the Russian Paralympians become an example for children with disabilities who begin to engage in physical education and sports. This was announced on August 8, on the Day of the Physical Education Student, by the chairman of the All-Russian Society of the Disabled (VOI), Paralympic champion Mikhail Terentyev.
According to him, one of the main achievements of the Russian sports community has been the increase in the number of disabled children who come to sports clubs inspired by the success of the Paralympians.
"Looking at our outstanding Paralympians, disabled children who want to play sports come to the sections. And we are seeing more and more people who, after the most severe injuries, return to active life thanks to sports, including the guys who took part in their military training," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The Chairman of the VOI stressed that the example of the Paralympians inspires not only people with disabilities. According to him, joint sports events promote communication and mutual respect between people.
As an example, Terentyev cited the Omsk Marathon, where athletes in wheelchairs performed together with athletes without disabilities.
"Different people live in Russia, but we are always strong in unity. Through sport, through such communication and mutual respect, the unity of the nation is achieved," the agency's interlocutor noted.
On the same day, Mikhail Degtyarev, the head of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, congratulated all his fellow citizens on the Day of Physical Education. According to him, this holiday unites all those who adhere to the principles of a healthy and active lifestyle, and also contributes to human development.
Physical Education Day was established by the decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR dated July 16, 1939. Initially, the holiday was celebrated annually on a certain date, and the first event was held on July 18 of the same year.
