Degtyarev called the Day of the physical education student uniting supporters of healthy lifestyle

The Day of Physical Education celebrated in Russia unites all those who adhere to the principles of a healthy and active lifestyle. This was announced on August 8 by the head of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation Mikhail Degtyarev in his congratulatory message.

"Happy Gym Teacher's Day! This is a celebration of all those who share the values of an active lifestyle. <...> Thousands of sporting events, festivals and mass launches will be held in the regions on this day," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

The Minister recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin, the USSR master of sports in judo and sambo, has repeatedly stressed that regular physical education contributes to success and health promotion. Sports are now a part of the daily lives of more than 84 million Russians, which is the result of the development of sports infrastructure and the creation of conditions for classes throughout the country.

Degtyarev also said that on the Day of the Physical education student, a family sports contest "Wellness sports for every family" will be held in 40 regions of the country. There are also planned All-Russian basketball competitions called "Orange Ball", which will bring together a total of more than 26 thousand participants.

In addition, the minister said that the Spartakiad of the Peoples of Russia will start on this day. 9 thousand athletes in 44 sports will take part in the competition. The tournament will be the beginning of the national selection for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Physical Education Day was established by the decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR dated July 16, 1939. Initially, the holiday was celebrated annually on a certain date, and the first event was held on July 18 of the same year. In 1980, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, the date was postponed to the second Saturday of August.

On July 29, Putin named Russia one of the world's leading sports powers. He noted that the country is the birthplace of legendary athletes, as well as records and victories. Then, in an address to the participants of the opening of the III International Multisport tournament "Games of the Future" in Astana, the Russian leader pointed out the importance of appropriate events for the development of people.
