Mexico and Argentina supported Infantino after the idea of selling a share of the World Cup

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) and the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) on Friday, August 7, expressed support to the president of the International Football Federation (FIFA) Gianni Infantino against the background of the organization's plans to sell a share of the World Cup to private investors.

"On behalf of the Argentine Football Association and its Executive Committee, we are writing to you, dear President, and through your worthy mediation to the FIFA leadership to express our support for the work carried out over the past ten years," the AFA statement said.

The Argentine side noted that FIFA stands for the continuation of work under the leadership of Infantino. The association also stressed the importance of admitting mistakes and apologizing to the members of the organization, and called compliance with the principles of governance the foundation of trust between FIFA and football associations.

FMF also expressed support for Infantino's leadership, endorsing his call to continue developing football in the interests of the organization's 211 member associations. At the same time, FIFA's plans have attracted criticism from a number of European federations. In particular, Sweden, Wales and Serbia have officially refused to support Infantino in the upcoming elections.

The text of the apology notes that the organization's management acknowledged the shortcomings after information about the project appeared in the media. However, on August 6, UEFA maintained its boycott of FIFA tournaments, despite Infantino's apologies.
