The Vatican's Secretary for Relations with States, Monsignor Paul Richard Gallagher, plans to arrive in Moscow at the end of August, TASS reported, citing a Vatican source.
According to the agency's interlocutor, the visit will take place on August 20th. The program of the trip has not yet been specified.
The source also recalled that last month Gallagher visited Kiev, where the focus was on humanitarian issues.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had his first telephone conversation with Pope Leo XIV on June 4 last year, during which he discussed the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. The Russian leader expressed gratitude to Leo XIV for his willingness to help resolve the conflict in Ukraine and participate in resolving humanitarian issues. It was clarified that the conversation was constructive. The parties expressed their intention to continue contacts.
