- The IAEA expressed concern about the situation with the power supply of the nuclear power plant
On August 6, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), announced an increase in the number of cases of external power outages at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP).
"This trend, the increasing number of cases of external power outages at the nuclear power plant, is of serious concern. <...> The Agency will continue its work to improve the situation and support nuclear safety at the facility," Grossi said in a statement posted on the IAEA website.
The agency reported that the NPP decided to raise the water level in the holding pools as a precautionary measure in case of prolonged lack of external power. Representatives of the IAEA were present at the start of these works this week.
On the same day, Alexey Fadeev, Deputy director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that the attack by Ukrainian militants on the gallery of the NPP was another attempt to endanger the physical and nuclear safety of the facility. He also stressed that the Russian side is counting on a proper reaction from the international community and relevant international organizations in connection with the incident.
