The Prime Minister of Georgia declared the country's openness to all tourists without exception

Georgia remains open to tourists from all countries, including Russia, and reports that Russian citizens are allegedly not welcome in Georgia or are in danger are false. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said this on August 6.

"Of course, our doors are open to everyone, any tourists. This is something that we need to talk about very openly. And we will do everything to ensure that an appropriate environment is provided for all tourists in Georgia. These are our culture and traditions, and this is exactly what meets the economic interests of our country," Kobakhidze said on Facebook (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

The head of government also commented on the statement of the Georgian State Security Service on the initiation of a criminal case into possible sabotage due to publications on social networks about the alleged bad attitude towards Russian tourists.

According to Kobakhidze, fake accounts were created outside Georgia, after which information disseminated through them began to be published internally by opposition-minded citizens.

He stressed that the investigation must be completed in order to identify all the participants in a possible crime. The Prime Minister also said that those involved in actions against the interests of Georgia must be held accountable.

Kobakhidze said on August 4 that the opposition of the republic began to speak out against Russia after receiving instructions from external forces. According to him, the change in the rhetoric of political opponents occurred after the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, and not after the events of August 2008.

Viktor Vodolatsky, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, said on July 21 that the attack on a Russian tourist in Georgia and the subsequent rally in support of the aggressor represented a provocation by the opposition aimed at undermining the recovering relations between Moscow and Tbilisi.
