The auto expert named the expiration date of the engine oil

Engine oil can be stored in its original sealed container without losing its properties, if all storage rules are followed, for five years from the date of bottling. This was stated by Alexander Sosnovsky, head of technical marketing for the Takayama brand of oils.

The oil is preserved in a sealed canister: there is no access to oxygen, moisture and dust. The manufacturer guarantees that the chemical stability and the additive package will remain intact throughout this period, the expert said.

"Even if you pour oil into the engine on the last day of this five-year period, it will work out the regular interval without any age allowances. Anything beyond five years is a zone of unpredictable oxidation and lack of guarantees. But if the oil is two, three or four years old, it's okay, a sealed canister completely protects it from external influences," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quoted Sosnovsky as saying on August 6.

After pouring oil into the engine, the irreversible aging process of the lubricant begins due to high temperatures, crankcase gases, fuel condensate and soot. Dispersant and anti-wear additives are also triggered, viscosity decreases, and deposits build up. Violation of the replacement regulations threatens with wear, overheating and loss of internal combustion engine life, the specialist warned.
