Russia needs to consider creating a rail link to the Indian Ocean due to the risks on other routes. This was announced on August 6 by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.

"The railway access to the Indian Ocean should also be considered. If there are risks on the Bosphorus and in Hormuz, alternative routes may be required: through Turkmenistan, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan," he said in an interview with TASS.
