The law on the expansion of transport access to designated lanes has entered into force

Amendments to the federal law "On Road Safety" have come into force in Russia, giving regions the right to independently determine which buses can use the allocated lanes, taking into account the specifics of urban and suburban infrastructure. The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation announced this in its Telegram channel on August 5.

Previously, only the cities of federal significance — Moscow, St. Petersburg and Sevastopol - had this opportunity. The changes are aimed at improving conditions for the development of tourism: access to the designated lanes is primarily relevant for tourist transport and services for mass events, since we are talking about buses weighing more than 5 tons and with a capacity of over eight passengers, the ministry said.

"The main purpose of the changes is to improve the quality of transport services for passengers by ensuring the predictability of traffic schedules. This will reduce travel time and contribute to the growth of the tourist attractiveness of the regions," the Ministry of Transport noted.

Decisions will be made by the executive bodies of the constituent entities in cooperation with local governments to ensure consistency of measures and allow flexible arrangement of transport work in the field.
