Blatter advised to elect a woman as the new FIFA president
On August 5, former President of the International Football Federation (FIFA) Joseph Blatter proposed appointing President of the Norwegian Football Association Lise Klaveness as the head of the organization.
"Lisa Klaveness deserves the highest respect," Blatter wrote on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
According to him, Klaveness is the only functionary who always takes a clear position and "does not go with the flow." Blatter also expressed the opinion that FIFA should be headed by a woman.
Blatter served as FIFA president from 1998 to 2015. Klaveness has been the head of the Norwegian Football Association since 2022.
On the same day, Sky Sports reported that FIFA President Gianni Infantino would hold an emergency meeting with the organization's leadership on August 5 in the Moroccan capital Rabat amid increasing criticism and declining support within the federation. Kave Solhekol, a correspondent for the TV channel, admitted that Infantino might face a demand to resign at the upcoming meeting.
The day before, the President of the Jordan Football Association (JFA) Ali bin Al-Hussein said that FIFA refused to help solve problems with visas, taxes and the payment of prize money, linking possible assistance with the support of Infantino. Al-Hussein also noted that the organization has not paid Jordan the prize money for reaching the final of the Arab Nations Cup in 2025 since December.
Infantino's plans to attract private investors to finance the organization by selling them its rights to tournaments were reported on July 28. Because of this, UEFA announced a boycott of FIFA tournaments on July 30. The International Federation then cancelled the plan.
