Anatoly Tavrichesky, a member of the Russian Geographical Society, oceanographer, warned that giant jellyfish are approaching Russian waters. In conversation with aif.ru On Wednesday, August 5, he explained that the appearance of giant swarming jellyfish off the coast of Vladivostok is due to changes in ocean currents and rising water temperatures.

According to him, due to global warming, hydrological conditions are changing, so not only puffer fish began to appear in Primorye, but also jellyfish migrating from warmer areas of the Pacific Ocean.

The expert noted that the ropilems most likely will not spread beyond the Primorsky Territory, as other currents will prevent this. He also stressed that such jellyfish had never been seen in these waters before.

According to the expert, ropilems have been regularly appearing in the Amur and Ussuriysk bays for about 25 years. In some years, there were so many of them that the jellyfish were caught, processed and exported to China. Currently, only a small number of individuals are observed off the coast of Vladivostok, as migration is just beginning. Scientists have already recorded a jellyfish with a diameter of about 35 cm, although in previous years there have been specimens up to 70 cm in size.
