The son of hockey player Nikolai Kulemin made his debut for the Canadian junior national team.

The son of former Russian national team forward Nikolai Kulemin, 17-year—old Alexey, played for the Canadian youth national team for the first time at the Glinka/Gretzky Cup, which takes place in Edmonton.

In the opening match, Kulemin Jr.'s team confidently beat Switzerland with a score of 7:3. The meeting took place on August 4 at the Rogers Place Arena. Camryn Warren, Ryerson Edgar, Benjamin Vetsch scored the pucks, and Brock Englandand Liam Puet scored two each. Jonah Neuenschwander, Tim Truessel and Sam Neff scored for the losers.

Nikolai Kulemin moved to North America after joining the NHL club Toronto in 2008. A year later, his son Alexei was born in Canada. He has lived in Ontario since childhood, considers Toronto his hometown, speaks English fluently and has dual citizenship.

Last season, Alexey Kulemin played for the Kingston club in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), where he scored 31 (11 goals + 20 assists) points in 57 games. Before that, he also played for one of Canada's youth teams.
